Safety & Responsible Training

Version 1.0 · Last updated October 2026

The short version

Check a trainer's qualifications and insurance before booking. Speak to your GP before starting a new exercise programme if you have any health concerns. Tell your trainer about injuries, conditions, medication and pregnancy. In an emergency, call 999.

This summary is for convenience — the full text below is the binding version.

1. Check before you book

FMPT is a directory. Unless a profile shows a clearly labelled badge explaining what we checked, we have not verified the trainer's claims. Ask to see qualifications and insurance, ask for references, and trust your judgement.

2. Your health

Exercise carries inherent risk. Consult your GP before starting a new exercise programme, especially if you are pregnant, injured, or have a medical condition. Always tell your trainer about injuries, conditions, medication and pregnancy before training.

3. During sessions

A good trainer will screen you first (for example with a PAR-Q form), explain exercises, and never pressure you into movements that cause pain. You can stop any session at any time.

4. Emergencies

In an emergency call 999. FMPT is not an emergency service. To report a safety concern about a trainer, use our complaints and reporting process.
